How does the Fuji 14mm f/2.8 compare with the Olympus 7–14mm f/2.8 Pro? Weird comparison? Maybe, but I do use both Micro 4/3 and Fuji. The Fuji is a full frame equivalent of a 20mm lens, and the Olympus is a 14–28mm full frame equivalent.
It’s not really a fair comparison, because the GX8 has more resolution than the X-T1. Also, the Olympus 7–14mm lens costs more than the Fuji 14mm. I bought my Fuji used off of Craigslist for less than half the cost of the Olympus lens.
The Olympus focuses about the same speed wise as the Fuji, but it is a sharper lens. The Olympus also focuses much closer and has the added benefit of being a zoom. Most importantly, the Olympus is great for video.
The Fuji system with it’s larger sensor has greater bokeh than the Olympus. It does focus close, but not near as close as the Olympus. Fuji also has the Fuji colors with the system, an aperture ring, and is built very well. There is actually not a fast wide angle zoom for the Fuji system — this prime is the fastest aperture you can have at this focal range.
Which is better? The Olympus. However, I have no plans on getting rid of the Fuji anytime soon.
Here are some shots from today’s outing in Seattle at the Fremont Sunday Market. These were all shot with the Fuji X-T1 and the Fuji 14mm f/2.8. Most of these were shot using the Classic Chrome preset except the food photos which were shot using the Velvia preset. I shot JPEG and ran them through Athentech’s Lucid Desktop software.
