Panasonic S1R + Lumix 50mm f1.4 Continuous Eye Autofocus Test – w/ Bad Hair and Acne

I hadn’t intended on making a video this weekend, but wanted to do a quick test after seeing the impressive autofocus of the S1H on Camera Conspiracies here on YouTube. What impressed me about watching the videos over there is that the Eye AF didn’t seem to pulse in and out like Panasonic’s Micro 4/3 offerings.

As cool as the S1H is, it’s not going to be a camera I rush out and buy anytime soon, but wouldn’t rule it out in the future.

I’ve tried the eye autofocus with the 24-105mm f/4, but it’s only an f/4 and since I mainly shoot in my basement with available light (due to laziness and low ceilings), it’s not the best lens for that environment. The 35mm f/1.2 Sigma I have is great for photos, but unreliable for video autofocus. I’ve never tried the 50mm f/1.4. Would the Panasonic lens do better just because it’s a Panasonic lens with their special DFD?

Take a look and judge for yourself!
