Social distancing – what a world!

The 35mm focal length is one of my favorites, and I’ve been looking for a chance to go out and shoot with my new lens, but we’re staying close to home and avoiding any and all contact with crowds.

While this might not be the absolute best 35mm lens I’ve ever used, it is quite unique in the fact that it lets you get super close. This feature alone is making it one of my faves. I think my all time favorite is the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II followed by the Tamron 35mm f/1.4 that I use on my Nikon.

First, let’s take a look at some macro shots I did around my home. For lighting, I used a macro flash bracket from Manfrotto, and use two LEDs that I use for video to provide constant lighting – not a bad set up if you ask me! Here are the results:

Next, let’s see how the lens is for vlogging. I’ll preface this by saying, I am terrible and walking and vlogging. The mic placement was awful, it was terribly uncomfortable, and no gimbal was used. Needless to say, I wouldn’t recommend walking and talking with the EOS R and this lens, but here’s my attempt at it:

After shooting this vlog, I shot some still photos with this lens. The eye autofocus of the EOS R could be better, and the lens could be a little sharper at wide apertures, it’s important to remember that this is a budget and lightweight lens. Not that great, but not too shabby either.

That’s it for now. I’ll try to get more creative with lens during this time of uncertainty and social distancing.
